Cynthia Stockstill-Vierria

Cynthia Vierria is a California native who moved to Maryland in 2010. She is influenced by her mother's love of all forms of music, her father’s love of the blues and the eclectic albums her six older siblings played incessantly: If she was riding in the car with her father, they were listening to Bobby Blue Bland or Albert King, for example. Meanwhile, her brothers and sisters were spinning everything from Aretha Franklin and Carole King to Sly & the Family Stone and Santana. Cynthia’s father, Aaron, would be filled with joy to see that Cynthia is the lead vocalist of a Piedmont blues band, and her siblings are excited that Cynthia and the Piedmonsters aren’t afraid to take their Piedmont grooves far and wide.
Despite a childhood filled with music, Cynthia didn’t begin to sing professionally until her 30s, when, on a dare, her husband convinced her to go next door and sing with his best friend's “basement“ band since she knew all the songs. That's how she became a vocalist in a band. This evolved into her being in several bands over the next few decades. Her sultry contralto voice brings energy from being the front woman for a variety of bands ranging from jazz, blues, swing, R&B, classic rock and funk. After 14 years in Maryland, she describes being a member of The Piedmonsters as akin to finally finding her tribe.
